Resumo:

O presente artigo pretende discutir inicialmente alguns aspectos do desafio das traduções de obras filosóficas em língua alemã, considerando aspectos e especificidades do idioma e suas dificuldades. Em um segundo momento o artigo concentra seu enfoque na tradução de obras do filósofo alemão G.W.F. Hegel (1770-1831), em especial as primeiras traduções em língua portuguesa feitas por tradutores cearenses, tais como Lívio Xavier, Djacir Menezes, Paulo Meneses e José Machado. São apresentados dados biográficos destes tradutores, além de sua produção sobre a filosofia hegeliana e a compreensão do trabalho de tradução por eles realizado.

Abstract:

This article initially intends to discuss some aspects of the challenge of translating philosophical works from the German language, considering aspects and specificities of the language and its difficulties. In a second moment, the article focuses on the translation of works by the German philosopher G.W.F. Hegel (1770-1831), especially the first translations into Portuguese made by translators from Ceará, such as Lívio Xavier, Djacir Menezes, Paulo Meneses and José Machado. Biographical data of these translators are presented, in addition to their production on Hegelian philosophy and their understanding of the translation work they performed.
